Earlier last year, the Dutch company Lightyear launched its first solar electric car Lightyear 0, and now the company has launched its second model at CES 2023, named Lightyear 2.

Pickpook learned that Lightyear is a Dutch electric car startup company dedicated to making solar cars. The goal is to produce a car that does not depend on the grid to further reduce emissions.

Judging from the official preview, Lightyear 2 seems to still adopt the coupe shape of Lightyear 0, with a higher ground clearance, almost making the car look like a two-door crossover.

Lex Hoefsloot, CEO and co-founder of Lightyear, said: "Lightyear 2 will quickly realize our mission of providing clean transportation for everyone, everywhere. It is the first vehicle that allows consumers to prioritize sustainability while simultaneously An electric car that doesn't compromise on practicality."

Like Lightyear 0, Lightyear 2 differs from conventional electric vehicles with solar panels on the roof, hood and rear, and the company says Lightyear 2 can reduce a driver's lifetime carbon dioxide emissions to half. The car offers a range of more than 800 kilometers, which is quite a bit more than the Lightyear 0 with a WLTP rating of 625 kilometers.

It is reported that Lightyear 0 solar panels are said to provide 70 kilometers of battery life per day under ideal sunlight conditions, but the official has not announced how much this data is for Lightyear 2. It is worth mentioning that Lightyear 2 can also supply power to the grid.

Many parameters of Lightyear 2 have not been announced. The company said that the car is expected to start mass production at the end of 2025. The first markets to be listed are the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union.

Surprisingly, the car is expected to sell for less than 40,000 euros, which is much cheaper than Lightyear 0's price of more than 260,000 dollars
