Tesla's Next-gen Small Electric Car Targets Fully Autonomous Driving, Half The Cost Of Model 3

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in 2020 that he was confident that a small electric car with fully automatic driving and a price of about US$25,000 would be launched within about three years.

After more than two years, there is finally news of this cheap electric car. Elon Musk said that Tesla is developing a next-generation small electric car that mainly operates in autonomous driving mode.

Although Elon Musk did not disclose the name of this new car, nor did he provide a specific release schedule, specifications and functions of the new car, but he emphasized that the new car is part of Tesla's product roadmap, and the manufacturing cost is only half that of Model 3. A self-driving vehicle that most people can afford.

Elon Musk also expects the small electric car to operate almost entirely in self-driving mode, emphasizing Tesla's most critical goal now when the vehicle is self-driving.

Last week, Tesla confirmed that it will set up a factory in Mexico. Local government officials revealed that the investment is as high as US$1 billion. The American media pointed out that the new super factory can start production in 2024 at the earliest.

Elon Musk also expects that the above-mentioned cheap small electric car will be produced in the Mexican factory. Judging from the positioning, the new car is expected to become Tesla's largest car model in the future.
